# Create custom templates

Custom templates let you build a reusable signature layout beyond the standard gallery.

## Availability

Custom templates and the advanced visual editor require Pro or Business.

## Open the Custom Template Builder

1. Open **Templates**.
2. Click **Custom Template**.
3. If you are on Free, the app sends you to the subscription page.

The custom template builder is desktop-only.

## Visual Mode

Visual mode lets you build a template with blocks.

1. Choose **Visual** mode.
2. Add blocks from the palette.
3. Reorder blocks by dragging them.
4. Select a block to edit its properties.
5. Review the live preview.
6. Enter a template name.
7. Click **Save template**.

Common blocks include name, title, company, text, email, phone, website, contact row, social icons, avatar, logo, QR, banner, divider, spacer, and button.

## HTML Mode

HTML mode lets you write custom HTML with placeholders.

1. Choose **HTML** mode.
2. Write valid email-safe HTML and inline CSS.
3. Open **Documentation** to view available placeholders.
4. Use placeholders exactly as shown.
5. Preview the result.
6. Save the template.

## Placeholder Notes

Placeholders are replaced with real signature data when a signature is generated. Do not use JavaScript in email signatures. Use inline CSS and table-based layout for best email-client compatibility.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.subscripta.app/templates/create-custom-templates.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
